Apply the adjustment
For a hypothetical favorite at −3.5, winning by three does not cover that spread; winning by four does. The example explains the question only and is not a prediction or recommended selection.
Whole numbers can tie
At −3, a three-point margin lands exactly on the line. The operator’s push rules determine the treatment. Do not assume a push is the same as a loss or that every combined selection handles it identically.
Read the period
Full-game, half, quarter, and other period spreads ask different questions. Confirm overtime treatment and the handling of abandoned or shortened events.
Try the settlement lab
The practice lab lets you change fictional final scores and a line to see the arithmetic. It does not reproduce every operator rule or resolve a real account selection.
